Snowmageddon: When three years ago seems like an eternity (VIDEO)

Snowmageddon is entrenched in the memories of those who lived through it. Judging by the number of times I get the question “when is the next big snowstorm coming?”, it seems many are hungry for a repeat.

Snowmageddon from space two years ago

Two years ago, Snowmageddon, one of the D.C. area’s biggest snowstorms on record, finally came to a close in the late afternoon. That was after dumping a mind boggling 18-32” of snow over the course of about 30 hours. The storm shut the city down for days and is etched in the memories of all those who lived through it.

NOAA warns weather forecasts will suffer from budget cuts

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is sounding the alarm on budget cuts, telling Congress that a failure to restore funding for development of the next generation of polar orbiting satellites, known as the Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS), would significantly reduce the accuracy of weather forecasts, particularly medium-range forecasts, and may have an outsized impact on forecasts for extreme events, such as blizzards or hurricanes.

"Snowmageddon": one of 2010's top words

"Snowmageddon", the word used to describe the historic snowstorm that crippled the mid-Atlantic last February 4-5 has been named on the Global Language Monitor's (GLM) "top words of 2010". The first use of the term in the context of last February's storm can be traced to the Capital Weather Gang.
