Amtrak plans to add 70 new electric locomotives to its fleet in an effort to improve service along the Northeast Corridor, Amtrak officials said Friday. NYC derailment snarls train travel

New Jersey Transit adjusted service and said passengers may experience delays and crowding after one of its trains derailed in New York City's Penn Station complex. The incident occurred at about 10:50 a.m. and is blocking access to 8 of 10 station tracks, Dan Stessel, an agency spokesman, said in a telephone interview. No injuries were reported by the 300 passengers on the train, NJ Transit said in a statement. The Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast Line may have "significant delays" and commuters should expect "crowding conditions" because some trains will be combined, the web site statement said. Amtrak reported delays of 15 to 30 minutes and said it has a single track operating in and out of Penn Station.
