Chicago officials trying to close a big budget deficit are laying off some 2,100 people, including teachers.

Philadelphia school district laying off 3,783 employees

This is on the heels of a "doomsday" school budget for 2013-14 that has no funding for things as basic as paper and new books.

Rhee back in trouble with D.C. teachers

It would be best for D.C. kids if Michelle Rhee’s reform effort actually works in improving schools. It’s just hard to see how that is going to happen when she keeps landing herself in situations that only increase people’s mistrust of her.
