College students hitting books less, study shows

Gulf oil spill spawns new college course

It didn’t take long for the diastrous oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico to become the focus of academics: The University of Minnesota has created a new course called “Oil and Water: The Gulf Oil Spill of 2010” that will be offered this fall.

Teen: Writing a research paper without the Internet is hard

Studying over the Internet is very distracting; there are so many different ways to get sidetracked that it almost seems inefficient. If I learned anything from staying up until the early morning, it’s that there are actually a few merits to those dusty old encyclopedias. That’s not to say that I’ve stopped using search engines lieu of textbooks, because I haven’t and you shouldn’t either.By Adam Turay.

Checking It Out: Does music interfere with studying?

Have you ever seen your children studying with iPod earplugs in their ears and wondered how they stay focused? Experts say that they don’t, at least not as well as they would if the music weren't on--unless, that is, the music is solely instrumental...And when they tell you they can text while studying and keep their concentration? Tell them to guess again.
