Grading our 2013-14 winter outlook: it’s ugly

In short, our outlook was a bust. We did well in December, but the rest of the winter was a unique and snowy animal.

Capital Weather Gang snowfall forecast contest winners, 2013-14

The winner, who came 0.1 inches away from getting it exactly right, was Brandi Erickson who predicted 32.1 inches would fall.

Snochi: A silver medal worthy forecast, falls just short of gold

Our forecast for the winter storm Wednesday night and Thursday was quite good, but not perfect - as we under-predicted amounts in some areas.

We should mostly avoid the incredible heat that plagued the last 3 summers. We favor lots of days in the 86 - 93 range with heat waves short-lived.
