The "ring of fire" annular solar eclipse: photos from Down Under (Australia)

Snow when to hold 'em, snow when to fold 'em

Facebook reader Meredith Massey captured a configuration of snow most of us have probably never seen before. As Monday's heavy wet snow deposited on a slide in Riverdale, Md. melted, it collapsed into almost perfect folds on the ground beneath.

Spring snow at the U.S. Capitol

I had to wait until spring for an opportunity to photograph snow in Washington. Approximately 1.5 inches of snow fell at the Capitol on the morning of March 25.

This morning's brief period of snow behaved as forecast for the most part, with just some conversational flakes inside the beltway that coated car tops, and light accumulations of an inch or so to the west and southwest.
