America likes animated birds more than Tyler Perry and Reese Witherspoon. At least that appears to be the case based purely on movie ticket sales.

We should have known better than to discount Hit-Girl. Final studio figures now indicate that "Kick-Ass" -- not "How to Train Your Dragon" -- was the No. 1 movie in North America this weekend, earning $19.8 million to "Dragon's" $19.6. This is the second weekend in a row that early studio projections have been incorrect, and the top movie has not been accurately determined until more solid figures were released Monday. Executives at Lionsgate and comic-book-movie lovers? Consider this your moment of vindication....
