Jury awards $10.5 million in death suit

A Charlottesville jury has awarded more than $10.5 million to the family of a woman who died after a concrete mixer truck fell on her car in 2007. Virginia Lawyers Weekly says the award may be the largest for a wrongful death case in Virginia. The victims were Jessica Lester, 25, who died after eight days, and her husband Isaiah Lester, who survived. Their car was crushed as they drove on State Route 53 near Monticello and were hit by a truck driven by William Sprouse, working for Allied Concrete Co.
