Correction to This Article
President George H.W. Bush waited until August 1992 to make an unprompted mention of Bill Clinton. The March 9 "White House Notebook" incorrectly identified his opponent as Michael S. Dukakis, Bush's 1988 opponent. The error has been corrected in this version of the article.
