Correction to This Article
A Nov. 16 article on the Louisiana gubernatorial election misstated the status of the winner, Lt. Gov. Kathleen Blanco. She is the second woman to be elected governor of a Deep South state. Lurleen Wallace of Alabama was the first, in 1966. She died of cancer 16 months after taking office. Blanco is the fourth woman elected governor in the old Confederacy (Texas has had two, Alabama one).
