For Webb, Bouquets and a Few Brickbats

RICHMOND, Jan. 24 -- U.S. Sen. James Webb (D-Va.) earned a full day of praise -- and some tough rhetorical jabs -- for his sharply worded response Tuesday night to President Bush's State of the Union address.

Gerson is an ass. Its such a cheap shot for a ---professional--- to use his ---credentials--- as proof that someone else is incompetent, because ---my opinion matters because I do it for a living---. Its just a coincidence that hes basically a professional conservative.

There has always been a thougth WHY NOT JIM WEBB FOR PRESIDENT --well actually only in my mind I assume as no one has pronouned that phrase. One U.S. Representative said he was genuine, refreshing and persuasive - and that is very much appropriate for Jim Webb. He knows who he is and he has been there - done that - has absorbed knowledge that makes him a very sincere person both as a Senator and a MAN ON THE STREET. His background qualifies him to speak out on issues - he knows whereof he speaks. Contrary to Mr Gersons SING A SONG OF DISPARE, Senator Webb does not get caught up in such LOW BROW comparison. Mr Gerson wrote speeches for Mr Bush - but how does that qualify him to examine the CHARACTER of Jim Webb. Mostly Mr Gersons speech writing elates to THEORY OF WHATEVER. Pitty to President Bush for rendering such language produced for popularity purposes that eventually proved just that - THEORY Best wishes to Senator Jim Webb - and his family - he is a real person for a real job at the real time in place.

Note to Michael Shear, Howie and Editor: The Countdown to Webbs Aneurysm headline was NOT written in a conservative blog. It was written in -- which is most assuredly NOT conservative! Wonkette is, however irreverent, whimsical, vulgar and goes out of its way to shock. Check your facts better. In trying to find a nasty headline, you got it wrong, wrong, wrong.

In the last election I voted for Webb. My first vote for a Democrat in many years. He is not afraid to say what he believes: an oddity for most politicians. He will well represent Virginians.

criticism Webbs spearch by, Michael J. Gerson, a former Bush speechwriter, also on the Newsweek site. Gerson quoting amd commenting No precipitous withdrawal -- but retreat in short order. Fight the war on terror vigorously -- except where the terrorists have chosen to fight it. -- Gerson has it the terrorists chose to fight in Iraq? Excuse meeee, but wasnt it Bush and Cheney who chose to fight in Iraq, providing an opening for the terrorists to come after us there, and stimulating more people to join the terrorists? As I see it, the big problem with fighting the terrorists is that first we have to fight off the administration, which has used terrorism as an excuse to: 1 Pursue dreams of imperial conquest and glory and the remaking of the Middle East in their image 2 Pursue the abrogation of the Constitution, the degredation of civil rights, and the hegemony of the executive branch over both the rest of government and the American people 3 Seek partisan political advantage by trying to silence opposition, painting critics as unpatriotic and allies of the terrorists. Gerson should only put on a uniform and go to Iraq, if thats where he thinks we should be fighting terrorists.

Webb did a great job and is a significant improvement over Allen that I cant remember for anything except being a son of a successful NFL coach that relied on many black players for his success. I think it would be hard for George Allen Sr. to realize that is son lost the senator partly on a race issue. GoDem

Jim Webb hit the nail on the head with his speech. This man would make a great president. He is bold, brave, and intelligent.

If you saw Mr. Webbs response to President Bushs speech, youll notice he dealt primarily with what effects these different events - the war in Iraq and the deepening economic divide - have on the average American. Rich people are by no means average at least in their comfort levels. If you disagreed with Mr. Webbs observations, perhaps you should take a look around you and see how you compare to the people you see walking down the street. Maybe classify the types of restaurants you eat in compared to all those available. This whole article made me think once again that the view from the Ivory Tower is always 20/20 for said tower occupant.

Senator Webb should criticize the 37yr old war on drugs, based on the obviously unconstitutional CSA, licensing law with criminal law punishment for doing licensed functions for the President. 2 million other lawyers judges have violated their oaths to the Constitution by not reading, nor obeying the simple 21USCA841a to Except as authorized by this subchapter, it shall be unlawful for any person to..., b punishes any person, but licensees are Every person authorized, licensed. Even millions of reporters cannot read English.

WWI, WWII, Korea,...Iraq were Presidential oath violating banker instigated adventures based on ambiguous words saving democracy, drugs, or terror. Trillions borrowed to fight the internal war on the American People over 37 years. Half the prison population are were totally innocent as the state federal CS Acts are incoherent laws approved by unconstitutional Supreme Court Moore case-law. Authorized = Licensed, while 1 1 = 2!

Could someone please explain to me how you can have a withdrawl in short order as well as not having a precipitous? Which is it?Maybe he should have stuck with the speech that the Democratic leadership gave him because that statment right there confuses the hell out of me as to what the actual Democratic plan is to get us out of Iraq.

Okay, Azu. Youre in a theater and a fire breaks out. Do you calmly and in short order make your way to the exit, or precipitously scramble over your fellow theater patrons? Youre welcome, irae

So far, Im immensely impressed with my new Senator. He makes me proud to be an American, a Virginian, and a Democrat.

Senator Webbs response to the state-of-the-union address was the very definition of reckless, the word he so often ascribes to President Bush. He owes an immediate apology for his lie when he stated that the majority of the military do not support the way the war has been fought. He wants us to fail in Iraq and he is willing to undermine our troops morale to do it for a clearly self-serving purpose. As a proud Virginian, I am ashamed that Jim Webb is one of our current senators. He has shown absolute disrepect to our President and our troops.

So do you mean he showed disrespect to his father, his brother, himself, and his son - all of whom are/were in the military? Maybe he is better poised to judge support for the war than Bush/Cheney, who never actually fought! Did you even watch Webbs speech?

Hurrah for Senator Jim Webb. Congratulations on delivering a great speech and speaking out for every day workers who deserve recognition for farming, ranching, cooking, teaching, serving, protecting, and so on. May God Bless America!

One would expect the a reporter at the Washington Post to be capable of at least rudimentary research abilities and basic journalistic standards. Labelling the Wonkette site as conservative reallyshows a fundamental lack of effort. Wonkette is an equal opportunity critic of political silliness everywhere. In truth, the blog has a decidedly leftward slant due to the ridiculous antics of members of the Republican party over the last several years. Is Wonkette a blog that contains moments of childish ridicule? Sometimes. But please dont impugn the intelligence of their bloggers and commenters, or suggest they have a conservative bias. Thats just laughable. Its called snark, folks.

dmcdonald21 should do some fact checking. According to the Military Times the opinion of our military members concerning the Iraq war somewhat mirrors the opinion of the general public. Only 35 of our military members say they approve of President Bushs handling of the war, while 42 disapprove. All the numbers are here:
