Amy Hitt was born in Los Angeles and grew up in Bethesda. She graduated from Sidwell Friends School and received her bachelor’s degree in English from Smith College. After college, Amy worked as a copy editor at the Winston-Salem Journal in North Carolina, where she married a fellow journalist and had a daughter. After returning to Washington in 1989, Amy worked at the Bureau of National Affairs and welcomed another daughter. She began copy editing part-time at The Washington Post in 1999, working on the Metro, Financial and Weekend desks, and joined the Weekend section as a full-time assignment editor in 2010. Amy lives in Arlington.
