Early impressions of the NFC East

The Eagles and Redskins are wheeling and dealing while the Giants and Cowboys have made some curious roster moves in the first week of NFL free agency.

Bob Bradley shown the door as mysterious foreigner swoops in

Now, suddenly and unceremoniously, Bob Bradley is out. Somebody new is coming in. This all seems sudden and capricious, but let’s not kid ourselves: this is the world we all live in.

Nats pitchers have the right stuff

To the naked eye, the Nationals pitching staff and bullpen seems to have better “stuff” than in years past. And if you believe the Sabermetrics community the Nats have one of the best starters and one of the best relievers in the league in terms of pure, unadulterated nastiness coming from their fingertips.

Redskins offseason to do list is long and distinguished

Our long national nightmare is over. Now that the NFL is back in business, the Redskins have a lot of work to do in a short period of time. The key things that need to happen...

Filing for NFL divorce

The product is awful, their practices towards their fans are abhorrent, and the whole enterprise seems to exist mainly to suck as much money out of people as practicable. I find all of those things loathsome. And that’s why I’m through with the NFL.

Jayson Werth’s uphill climb

Jayson Werth is in an unenviable position. Even if he goes on a tear over the next two-plus months of the season to return to his career averages, fans won’t realize his full body of work until it’s over and then still won’t be able to forget his four months of futility.

Mixed feelings about Caps’ offseason activity

Even Alex Ovechkin admits that he’s surprised by how active the Caps have been in free agency this summer. And frankly, I’m a little overwhelmed by all of it. And, if I can be frank again, I’m also feeling distinctly apprehensive.

D.C. United vs. New England match diary & player ratings

I’m hoping United can assert their adequacity in this match. I want New England to look at us and think “man...that team is pedestrian!” Let’s go out there and show the Revs what a team firing on a substantial majority of its cylinders looks like!

D.C. United at Dallas match diary & player ratings

I really can’t remember anything from the first United-Dallas match this year, so they’ve now combined to produce 180 minutes of forgettable soccer this year. When these two get together, nothing interesting happens. They’re the Franklin & Bash of soccer.

Redskins: Please don’t chase Santonio Holmes

The image of Redskins One, fueled and waiting to pick up Santonio Holmes as soon as the ink is dry on the new collective bargaining agreement, is a sign that the team may be returning to its old bad habits.

Women’s World Cup final preview: USA vs. Japan

It’s exciting to watch a World Cup final and expect the U.S. to win, but just because they’re not playing the team they thought they would play in the final doesn’t mean they’re not playing one of the best teams in the tournament in Japan.

Don’t hold your breath waiting for D.C. All-Star game

Watching the All-Star Game festivities this week has me pining for Washington’s turn to host baseball’s all-stars. I’ve got a bad feeling that fans like me will have to wait a long time until we get the chance to watch baseball’s best in the nation’s capital.

A plague on both your houses

So to players and owners: You need to solve this problem soon before you damage the financial health of your industry, drive away a generation of fans and unleash a plague on an unsuspecting public.

D.C. United at New York Red Bulls match diary & player ratings

A lot of the writing in advance of this match has taken the angle: Dax vs. De Rosario — we’ll see who got the better of the trade. Um, are you kidding me? We know who got the better of the trade: United.

Creative problem solving

Like an itch you can’t reach to scratch, this lockout has gone on for far too long. Here are some seriously sarcastic suggestions to end it.

Analyzing the Caps recent signings

The additions to the Caps may not have improved their regular season potential — they are still going to be roughly a 110-point team — but, they are, without a doubt, a grittier bunch that will be harder to play against come playoff time.

GMGM Gets it Done

What a weekend George McPhee put together. It’s honestly hard to fathom how he was able to put so many great deals together almost simultaneously.

Who deserves to be the Nationals’ All-Star?

Tyler Clippard is a fine pick, but I wish the Nationals were able to send other players that see more on-the-field time.

D.C. United vs. Philadelphia match diary & player ratings

United are within shouting distance of a playoff spot and DeRosario is exactly the player they need. But they also need to be getting all three points at home, starting tonight.

NBA owners’ tale of woe doesn’t add up

The longer the NBA owners maintain the ruse that they’re suffering because of player compensation, the longer it will take to address the real issues, and the longer the lockout will endure.

For purely recreational purposes, let’s place odds on how this Dwayne DeRosario trade ends for United.
