Maryland Beltway project starts tonight

A lengthy project is getting underway on the Maryland Beltway tonight that will have a significant impact on commuting through the Silver Spring area. The State Highway Administration is going to rehabilitate the bridge that carries Beltway traffic over the Northwest Branch.

Weekend lane closings on I-66

Three of four lanes on eastbound I-66 are scheduled to close tonight and Saturday night as part of Virginia’s resurfacing project between Route 50 and the Capital Beltway. Drivers who have been caught up in previous lane closings tell me that traffic is painfully slow, at least in the early hours.

Car recovered in carjacking incident at Metro station

Blue and Yellow Line delays cleared

There were delays on the Blue and Yellow Lines in both directions due to a train malfunction outside of Crystal City. Trains are sharing the same track between the Pentagon City and National Airport stations.

Weekend warning for Telegraph Road interchange

The Wilson Bridge project plans to spend this weekend working on one of the most time-consuming tasks in its remaining mission to rebuild the Capital Beltway’s Telegraph Road interchange. Crews must dismantle and reconstruct the bridge over the railroad tracks, a job that’s not scheduled to be complete until fall 2012.

MARC Penn Line train canceled

Amtrak train 151 on MARC’s Penn Line has been canceled this morning due to a service disruption last night. Amtrak train 111 will make those stops, but the Maryland Transit Administration says it will arrive between 40 and 45 minutes later than train 151 would have.

Major accident slows traffic on inner loop

Heat restrictions for MARC Brunwick, Camden lines

The Maryland Transit Administration reports that CSX has issued heat restrictions for its tracks until 7 p.m. Thursday. This will affect trains on the Brunswick and Camden lines, which will operate 20 miles per hour under their normal maximum speed.
