MARC delayed, Metro will accept tickets

MARC Brunswick Line train 890 is having mechanical problems and is stopped between Point of Rocks station and Dickerson. Train 872 will take train 890’s passengers, while a rescue train will be dispatched to help the disabled train. Expect a delay of 20 to 25 minutes, according to the Maryland Transit Administration.

Major MARC delays

A disabled freight train is causing some major problems for commuters on MARC’s Brunswick Line. Train 872 was delayed 30 minutes by the disabled train, which was stopped between Point of Rocks and Dickerson station. Train 874 is also running 12 minutes behind. Metro will honor MARC tickets.

The weekend and beyond

This weekend, travelers will be heading for the annual Race for the Cure by the National Mall, the Capital Jazz Fest at Merriweather Post Pavilion, the Vintage Virginia Wine Festival at Bull Run Regional Park and the Washington Folk Festival at Glen Echo Park. Weekend lane closings on I-66

Three of four lanes on eastbound I-66 are scheduled to close tonight and Saturday night as part of Virginia’s resurfacing project between Route 50 and the Capital Beltway. Drivers who have been caught up in previous lane closings tell me that traffic is painfully slow, at least in the early hours.

Car recovered in carjacking incident at Metro station

Metro police said they have recovered a 2004 Audi that belonged to the victim of a carjacking incident at the New Carrollton Metro station May 20.

Blue and Yellow Line delays cleared

There were delays on the Blue and Yellow Lines in both directions due to a train malfunction outside of Crystal City. Trains are sharing the same track between the Pentagon City and National Airport stations.

14th Street Bridge work zone to shift again

The construction island in the middle of the 14th Street Bridge’s northbound span is scheduled to shift to a new spot next week. That will be the final phase of the reconstruction project.

All entrance escalators were out of service at the Bethesda Metro station. Shuttle bus has been requested and the station remains open.

Weekend warning for Telegraph Road interchange

The Wilson Bridge project plans to spend this weekend working on one of the most time-consuming tasks in its remaining mission to rebuild the Capital Beltway’s Telegraph Road interchange. Crews must dismantle and reconstruct the bridge over the railroad tracks, a job that’s not scheduled to be complete until fall 2012.

MARC Penn Line train canceled

Amtrak train 151 on MARC’s Penn Line has been canceled this morning due to a service disruption last night. Amtrak train 111 will make those stops, but the Maryland Transit Administration says it will arrive between 40 and 45 minutes later than train 151 would have.

Temporary fix to Broad Branch Road set to begin

Work is set to begin Wednesday on a temporary single-lane bridge on Broad Branch Road over Soapstone Creek in Northwest Washington in an area that has been closed to most traffic since April after a sinkhole opened.

Major accident slows traffic on inner loop

All lanes of the inner loop have reopened after an accident that left nine people, including a child injured. However, congestion extends across the American Legion Bridge into Virginia. Expect delays if you’re traveling through the area.

Heat restrictions for MARC Brunwick, Camden lines

The Maryland Transit Administration reports that CSX has issued heat restrictions for its tracks until 7 p.m. Thursday. This will affect trains on the Brunswick and Camden lines, which will operate 20 miles per hour under their normal maximum speed.
