Some DMV fees increasing

If you’ve been putting off a trip to the District Department of Motor Vehicles, you might want to make sure you head there before the end of the month. Fees will go up on Oct. 1 for a handful of transactions, including residential parking permits and temporary licenses.

Public hearings scheduled for new ICC bus routes

Three new proposed Commuter Bus routes are scheduled to begin running on the Intercounty Connector beginning Jan. 3, 2012. Members of the public will have a chance to comment on these routes at a series of hearings scheduled over the next two weeks.

Mount Vernon Trail detour near Wilson Bridge

The Woodrow Wilson Bridge Project will detour a section of the Mount Vernon Trail in Old Town Alexandria over the next three weeks. The section of the trail that runs under the Woodrow Wilson Bridge will be closed until Oct. 15 for park construction and to place asphalt.

Senate committee approves money for Metro

Montgomery Co. adds pay-by-cell phone parking to all areas

Cell phones can now be used to pay for parking at almost 12,000 meters in all of Montgomery County’s parking districts, the county announced on Tuesday. The recent conversion of 1,089 meters in North Bethesda finishes adding the service to the county’s final parking district.

Group pushes for new entrance at Bethesda Metro station

Collection agency to target Delaware red light violators

Delaware is cracking down on motorists caught running red lights who haven’t paid the fines by enlisting the help of a collection agency. And most of the money is owed by owners of vehicles registered outside the state.

New airport security policy ahead for kids under 12

MARC service changes

All MARC Brunswick Line trains will board from the opposite track from the Point of Rocks to Kensington stations this morning. This is due to freight train congestion, according to the Maryland Transit Administration.

Metro SmarTrip pilot program expanded

The transit agency is doing a test run of a program that it eventually plans to expand to all its riders. Commuters will be able to upload money on their electronic fare cards from their own computers.

MARC’s Brunswick and Camden lines both have flash flood warnings in effect this morning, according to the Maryland Transit Administration. Trains will be running at a reduced speed, so expect to stop. There will be delays of 15 to 30 minutes.
