The Coca-Cola Foundation donated $2 million to the Smithsonian Institution and split the grant into carry-out cartons: $1.2 million to the National Museum of African American History and Culture; $500,000 for a curator-in-residence program at the National Museum of African Art; and $250,000 for the “At Water’s Edge” exhibit at the National Zoo.

National Gallery puts three “Red” Rothkos back on view

The National Gallery of Art has returned three murals of Mark Rothko to public view. These are murals from the so-called Seagram Mural project, that Rothko eventually backed out of, but provided the inspiration for “Red,” the award winning play that will be mounted at Arena Stage, starting January 20.
