Stolen Pissarro returned to France

Thirty years ago a man walked out of the Faure Museum in Aix-les-Bains, France with a monotype by Camille Pissarro under his jacket. After it landed in a Sotheby’s catalog in 2003, the work was identified as the stolden Pissarro. Wednesday in Washington the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency handed it back to the French Ambassador.

Mariinsky Ballet officially welcomes Kampa as its first American dancer

The Mariinsky Ballet, one of Russia’s oldest companies, officially welcomed local ballerina Keenan Kampa, as the first American to join the company. The Mariinsky announced the news during its performances at the Kennedy Center and Kampa, who grew up in Reston, will work with the Boston Ballet until May and then join the Mariinsky.

Ai Weiwei’s work coming to Washington in May

An installation by the famed Chinese artist Ai Weiwei will be featured at the Sackler Gallery, starting May 12. The artist, who was jailed in China last year for his outspoken criticism of the government, will also be the subject of an exhibition at the Hirshhorn Museum, starting in October.

National Geographic Museum announces new vice president position

Columbia Heights is the site of a special dance and symphony concert

The Dance Institute of Washington and the National Symphony Orchestra are collaborating on a concert set for Jan. 9 in Columbia Heights. Eva Zeisel tribute at Hillwood Estate and Museum

The Smithsonian’s IMAX theater at the National Museum of Natural History will feature Tom Cruise’s “Mission: Impossible---Ghost Protocol” starting Friday.
