Burke's Antoine Douglas falls short in bid to make Olympic boxing team

Burke's Antoine Douglas, 18, opened with a pair of victories at last week's men's Olympic boxing trials in Mobile, Ala., but lost his final two bouts to fall short in his bid to make next year's U.S. Olympic team.

Douglas and his sister Tyrieshia were the only pair of siblings to qualify for the boxing trials for the 2012 Olympic Games in London. The women's trials take place in February.

Antoine Douglas, an Anacostia High graduate, defeated Damarius Russell of Minneapolis, 26-14, in his opening fight in the 165-lb. class, then overpowered Luis Arias of Milwaukee, 27-12. But with a chance to advance to the Trials final last Wednesday, Douglas fell to Jesse Hart, the eventual champion, 14-10. In a must-win situation Thursday, Douglas fell to Arias, 14-10, in the challenger's bracket.
