If you’ve been thinking about giving to a charity or nonprofit but haven’t gotten around to it yet this year, there’s no better day than today — it’s Give to the Max Day.
Through midnight tonight, qualifying nonprofits in the Washington region are fighting to attract as many donors and donations as possible, both to support their programming and to compete for awards ranging from $2,500 to $25,000.
All told, there are some 1,300 area nonprofits competing for your dollars; you can choose from everything from the Latino Economic Development Corporation to the D.C. Public Library Foundation. You can search by category here, or browse all participating groups here.
Not only are groups going to be fighting for your donations, but the whole program is a matter of geographic pride. So far, District residents top the list of donors, having given over $122,000 through some 1,075 donors at the time of this writing. Fairfax County is second, with just short of $20,000 from 320 donors.
