Farmers market roundup: Sept. 27-Oct. 3

September 27, 2012

All due respect to the Muppets, but this time of year I have to disagree with Kermit: It is in fact easy being green. We’re entering the season of leafy greens, and kale has burst onto the scene this week. You’ll find it at today’s Ballston FreshFarm Market, Saturday’s Columbia Heights Community Marketplace, Saturday’s FreshFarm Market in Silver Spring, Saturday’s H Street NE FreshFarm Market, Wednesday’s Farmers Market at Maryland and Wednesday’s Foggy Bottom FreshFarm Market. Details on these and more than 100 other markets can be found through the link to our map below.

Because we’re all in favor of cross-promotion here at The Post, make sure you have a look at Carolyn Butler’s column about kale from Tuesday’s Health & Science section. She makes some interesting points, including reasons why you shouldn’t go too crazy eating large quantities of the cruciferous vegetable. That would just be overkale. (Sorry, I could not resist.)

We have almost three dozen recipes with kale in our Recipe Finder, including two for its popular chip preparation.
