Jonathan Schuyler becomes wine director at 2941

It seems that we here at All We Can Eat were premature in reporting that Jonathan Schuyler would be leaving his post at 2941, as part of a wine team that had planned to start pouring at R.J. Cooper’s forthcoming Rogue 24. Apparently before Schuyler could even finish giving notice, 2941 offered him the position as wine and beverage director at the Falls Church restaurant with the 5,000-bottle cellar.

It took Schuyler, like, five seconds to accept.

“It’s a great opportunity for me,” Schuyler noted in a written statement. “Not only is it a vertical move in my career, but we have a great team at 2941. I thoroughly enjoy working with Chef [Bertrand] Chemel, and I have at my disposal one of the most formitable wine cellars in this region.”

Schuyler has a diverse background. The Albany, N.Y., native graduated with a political science degree from Goucher College in Towson and later studied at the New England Culinary Institute in Vermont. He worked at various kitchens in Vermont before serving as chef de cuisine at Grand Cru in Baltimore. Schuyler has passed the level two, certified sommelier exam.

Former 2941 sommelier Matthew Carroll will still be joining Rogue 24. Cooper said yesterday that he has already replaced Schuyler but couldn’t name the person because the future employee hadn’t yet given notice.
