Paula Deen, meet diabetes?

When Paula Deen visited The Washington Post in 2007, she made grits. With lots of butter. (Marvin Joseph — The Washington Post)

The news would be ripe for intense condemnation of the bestselling cookbook author’s heavy use of butter, which has been lampooned by everyone from “Saturday Night Live” to Food Network humor. She’s even inspired her own butter meme (Not Safe For Work).

Anthony Bourdain has publicly derided her typically unhealthful recipes, calling her the “worst, most dangerous person to America” because of her shameless promotion of fatty foods.

If the Southern cooking queen does, in fact, disclose her condition, it will be more than simple irony.

Deen’s home state of Georgia has the second-highest rate of childhood obesity in the nation — which helped prompt a shocking anti-obesity commercial by Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta earlier this month.
