It may be the first TV watch party where the guests will sit and stare at the screen while the host is publicly flayed. Such will be the bizarre circumstances when Piratz Tavern in Silver Spring hosts a viewing on Sunday night for the season premiere of “Bar Rescue,” the Spike TV reality series that saves watering holes from drowning in their own red ink.

Like Piratz Tavern.

Piratz’s descent into the corporate sinkhole has been well documented by this point. The only source, it seems, that has yet to put its spin on the tale is the program that inspired all the hand wringing in the first place. That ends 9 p.m. Sunday, when “Bar Rescue” launches Season Two with host Jon Taffer’s attempt to transform Piratz into the Corporate Bar and Grill.

It’s a multiple car wreck of a show, and you won’t be able to stop watching.

To celebrate the episode, Piratz will have several TVs tuned into “Bar Rescue,” presumably with some over-ripe produce available to toss at the screen. I mean, why not? “Bar Rescue” certainly takes no prisoners with Piratz Tavern, treating owners Tracy and Juciano Rebelo as little more than punching bags.

Not that it seemed to bother Tracy Rebelo when I talked to her for today’s Style story. Her attitude was, essentially, Taffer has his story, I have mine.

The Rebelos also will have three bars open for the party, including one on the patio. What’s more, Tracy Rebelo is promising giveaways and commemorative T-shirts emblazoned with quotes ripped right from the Piratz Tavern episode of “Bar Rescue.”

I wonder whether they’ll feature this quote from Taffer: “Fixing bars is easy. Fixing people is tough.”

The host found out exactly how tough it is to “fix” people.

The “Bar Rescue” party starts at 7 p.m. Sunday. The TV program begins at 9 p.m. Piratz Tavern is located at 8402 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring. 301-588-9001.
