Tales of the Cocktail: A glazed beginning

Editor’s note: Jason Wilson is in New Orleans, reporting daily (or whatever one calls drinking and writing in Crescent City) from Tales of the Cocktail.

So here I am once again spending a muggy late July week in New Orleans for Tales of the Cocktail. Tales celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, and this will be my sixth visit to the massive spirits industry event, a mix of educational conference, trade show and so-called “band camp for cocktail geeks.”

My, how the time flies! It seems like yesterday that I attended my first Tales in 2007, and the thing just gets bigger and bigger each year. Last year left me with a bit of an existential hangover, but I’m fully recovered and back for more.

As in years past, I’ll be blogging from Tales this week, taking the annual pulse of all things spirits and cocktails. One of my favorite parts of Tales is getting the chance to taste and report on new or newly available products in advance of their launch.

However, I must say that things have gotten off to a strange start today. My first sip of the day was. . .glazed doughnut-flavored vodka. Well, let’s hope it’s all uphill from here!

Check back here for more reports as the week goes on.
