The debut episode of “Top Chef: Texas” was a chaotic affair, in which the Tom Colicchio, Padma Lakshmi and the rest of the judges/wranglers started to narrow the field of 29 chefs to 16 “cheftestants” for the competition proper.
The producers managed to keep the cliches to a minimum, right down to the opening challenge: The chefs were asked to cook pork, as if this were “Top Chef: Tar Heels” or something. I guess beef is too boring for reality TV.
Anyway, the snark came fast and furious last week as Joe Yonan, Bonnie Benwick, Carol Blymire and I Tweeted our brains out. But here’s the thing: We’re not snarking in a vacuum, you know.
