In case you missed it, the latest installment in the annual presidential Christmas pet-video series was released Thursday. In it, Bo, the Obamas’ Portuguese water dog, looks bored as he strolls past towering Christmas trees and lighted garland before meeting — gasp! — a larger-than-life-size replica of himself.
It’s cute, but it’s hard for it to compete with the outrageous kitsch of the Christmas videos featuring Barney, the Bush family’s Scottish terrier; in the 2008 version, a sleepy Barney dreams that he’s won the Olympics — in glitchy 2-D animation, no less. Michael Phelps even makes an appearance.
