Fashion’s Night Out: Live updates from Georgetown

M Street will become a makeshift runway this evening, with 100 stores and restaurants along Georgetown’s main thoroughfare participating in Fashion’s Night Out (FNO). The Post’s fashion team will be covering the night live. Follow our updates after the jump for the latest on the night’s best bargains, giveaways and more.

The event is part of the third annual FNO, a creation by Vogue editor Anna Wintour and other industry execs to encourage shoppers to continue investing in fashion despite a rough economy. FNO has become a global fete, with 17 countries holding events. Georgetown’s participation is shaping up to be even more extensive than last year. Post reporter Maggie Fazeli Fard spoke with FNO organizer and director of Georgetown’s Business Improvement District (BID) Nancy Mihayira:

“We don’t have a fashion industry in D.C., but we do have an interest in fashion. And Fashion’s Night Out is everything one would expect from a fashion event,” she said.

Tonight’s events include a roller derby demo, a dancing flash mob, a photo booth, wine and Scotch tastings, flower accessory-making, a live fashion show and a dream wedding giveaway. Oh, and in case you actually want to shop, stores will stay open late, until 11 p.m.

Fear not, Northern Virginia residents, Tysons Galleria will also host its own version of FNO. If you’re having trouble deciding between the two events, Post reporter and Going Out Guru Lavanya Ramanathan breaks them down:

Georgetown’s Fashion’s Night Out will have a particularly artsy vibe, with a photo booth, flower accessory-making at the BYT lounge and more. At Tysons and Tysons Galleria Fashion’s Night Out, it’ll be all about the giveaways — champagne and macaroons at the Christian Dior at Saks and the Tory Burch store, snacks and cocktails at the Ritz.

For those who have made the Fashion Week pilgrimage to New York, the city’s dozens of FNO events are prime territory for celebrity spotting. Don’t know where to look? Celebritology blogger Sarah Anne Hughes provides a list to help your stalking dreams come true:

Justin Bieber will be Dolce & Gabbana’s guest of honor this evening, which may seem weird but actually makes sense. His choice of red pants with cheetah print shoes at the MTV VMAs confirmed to me that’s he’s really a fashionista. ( Racked NY )

Daniel Radcliffe will be hanging out at Jeffrey New York, which will in turn be filled with “Harry Potter” fans.” (Racked NY)

Sarah Silverman will be telling jokes and signing her book, “The Bedwetter,” at MAC Cosmetics. (NBC New York)

Bergdorf Goodman is hosting Victoria Beckham, who may have baby Harper with her. That’s a celeb twofer! (NBC)
