The most anticipated D.C. music release of the year is out: Fat Trel ’s “Nightmare on E Street” was made available as a free download earlier this morning. The 21-year-old rapper is already a local star, and this 22-song effort could be the project that launches him into the national hip-hop conversation.
Trel is known for his blunt and straightforward style that can make for wildly compelling street anthems when he’s matched with beats as imposing as his voice.
“At his most thrilling, he manages to sound dangerous in a genre that has exhausted the notion of taboo,” Chris Richards wrote in a recent Sunday Style cover story.
“I do what I [expletive] do,” Trel told him. “And I rap about it.”
