Kennedy Center announces guests for its September 11 remembrance concert

The Kennedy Center announced it will hold an invitation-only evening of music and words to mark the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.

The evening on September 8 will feature opera singer Denyce Graves, country singer Emmylou Harris, jazz artist Wynton Marsalis and the National Symphony Orchestra. John Mauceri will conduct the NSO.

A series of readings will be delivered by former Secretaries of State Colin Powell, Condoleezza Rice and Madeleine Albright. Leon Wieseltier, the literary editor of The New Republic, will also do some readings. A special commemorative issue of The New Republic will be given to all the guests.

“9/11: 10 Years Later--An Evening of Remembrance and Reflection” will be hosted by Christiane Amanpour. The 7:30 performance will be invitation-only.
