Music of the Movement: ‘Oh Freedom’

“Oh Freedom” is a timeless song, recorded in the 1950s by Odetta and Harry Belafonte. At the March on Washington Joan Baez was the first official performer and chose “Oh Freedom.”

This continues a survey of songs of the Civil Rights era, leading up to the dedication of the Rev. Martin L. King, Jr. memorial on August 28.

Baez was still close to her original interpretation in 1966.
