Signature Theatre’s third annual Stephen Sondheim Award will honor Patti LuPone. She will be celebrated at a black-tie gala on April 16, 2012 at the Embassy of Italy.
The two-time Tony Award winner starred in the 2008 Broadway production of “Gypsy” as Rose, the Ultimate Stage Mother. The portraya won her a Tony Award, a Drama Desk Award, an Outer Critics Circle Award and a Drama League Award.
LuPone has performed in many Sondheim productions, notably in “Sunday in the Park with George” and as Mrs. Lovett, a cook who specializes in meat pies made of people, in “Sweeney Todd.” She also recently played Joanne in the New York Philharmonic’s concert production of Sondheim’s “Company.”
