The Guardian reports that Paul McCartney is expected to take the place of the late Kurt Cobain alongside a reunited Nirvana at Wednesday’s 12.12.12 benefit concert for victims of Hurricane Sandy in New York City.
If this trans-generational rock summit actually comes to pass — Spin has smacked down some of the Guardian’s flubby details — fans will be hearing Nirvana-drummer-turned-Foo-Fighters-frontman Dave Grohl, Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic and Nirvana-auxiliary-guitarist-turned-Foo-Fighter Pat Smear all on the same stage, performing Nirvana songs sung by the man Grohl once said laid “the foundation of my musical being.”
That was two summers back on the steps of the White House, when Grohl was in Washington to fete McCartney, who had been awarded the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. The two are friendly. This might actually happen. We’ll all find out when the concert airs on an array of television channels at 7:30 p.m.
