Stephen Sondheim ’s Broadway melodies will forever play at Marquette University , where the Stephen Sondheim Research Collection has been recently created. An expansive collection of works by the Oscar-winning composer and lyricist has just been received by the Milwaukee school from Sondheim über-fan and Marquette alumnus Paul Salsini. The assembly holds a vast wealth of the eight time Tony-award winner’s work, including scripts, scores, articles, reviews, long-playing records, and memorabilia from his productions. Highlights include over 600 Playbills and programs, and nearly 50 personal letters of correspondence between Sondheim and Salsini, who was co-founder and former editor of quarterly magazine “ The Sondheim Review .”
The collection will open to the public in October.
Sondheim’s 1971 musical “Follies” just finished a spring run at the Kennedy Center and is headed Broadway. For more information on the Research Collection, visit marquette.edu/library.
