In this age of Internet hoaxes, the adorable, cartoon-looking creature pictured below was greeted with suspicion. Was this really an albino cyclops shark, or was this just a great photo-shop job?

But doubters put aside their concerns when the blog that originally reported the catch got confirmation that the shark was real. Felipe Galván-Magaña, of the Interdisciplinary Center of Marine Sciences in La Paz, Mexico, examined the shark and confirmed it was a real cyclops. Pisces Fleet Blog reports that Galván-Magaña will publish a scientific paper about his findings.
The shark is actually a fetus, found in the belly of a legally caught shark by fisherman Enrique Lucero León. He brought it to the attention of the fishing company who reported the catch on its blog and the rest is viral-Internet-sensation history.
