Death toll in Bangladesh floods approaches 100 (Video)

The death toll from landslides and flooding in Bangladesh approached 100 on Wednesday, as torrential rains roil the South Asian nation, the BBC reported..

The heavy rains, which began over the weekend, have forced roughly 200,000 people from their homes, Reuters reported Wednesday. In Chittagong, a Bangladeshi southeastern port city, more than 18 inches of rain has fallen over the past 24 hours.

According to Al-Jazeera, Bangladeshi officials fear the number of dead could rise well beyond 100 and that the downpour could persist until the end of the week.

In this amateur video posted on YouTube, residents in Chittagong trudge through waist-deep water carrying umbrellas and pushing rickshaws on Tuesday.

This video by a Bengali news station depicts the severe flooding, which has consumed much of southeastern Bangladesh.
