Dennis Kucinich shares unusual talent on ‘The Daily Show’

No, this isn’t Dennis Kucinich. But the congressman shares a talent with this other Dennis (O'Mann), pictured at New York City's 250th annual St. Patrick's Day parade in March. (Brendan McDermid - Reuters)
Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich is known for being a staunch liberal, being a two-time candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination and suing the House cafeteria over an olive pit. But did you know Kucinich is a trained ventriloquist? That’s what John Oliver found out on last night’s “The Daily Show.”

While discussing Kucinich’s unusual ability to stay elected in a Republican state, Oliver discovered from a Republican politician that the representative is trained in ventriloquism, the somewhat terrifying art of manipulating your voice so it sounds like it’s coming from another source. Kucinich and his pinstripe-suit-wearing dummy launched into duets of “God Bless America” and “Whistle a Happy Tune” from “The King and I.”

Because of redistricting, Kucinich might lose his seat in Congress. Although we now know that he has a fallback career, the 64-year-old told Oliver he will “look for another district to run in.”
