Iggy Pop swings by ‘American Idol’

I have to admit, I don’t watch “American Idol” except for those torturous audition reels (I’m a sucker for schadenfreude), but the roster of celebrity guests has been turning my head lately. And, now, I’m seriously sad I missed Thursday night’s show, when one of the strangest celebrities showed up: Iggy Pop, the wild child of ’70s punk, took the stage at the squeaky, clean Idols. The Post’s Lisa de Moraes writes:

As if the producers didn’t scare the Idolettes enough with Russell Brand and those cool kids at TMZ, now they’ve exhumed Iggy Pop who, in his 60’s, has become Gollum from “Lord of the Rings.” Iggy writhes and prances around the stage, with his shirt off, singing “Real Wild Child” and leering at JLo. Rock on, Gollum! And when this is over, let’s put him in a Plexiglas case and mount him for display at that Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland!

Gollum he may be, but a sexy Gollum at that. With some of the best songs out there. Well played, “American Idol.” Here's one of his best tunes:
