Ikea’s ‘Mänland’ playground for men: Sexist or not?

An IKEA store in Sydney has figured out an innovative way to keep husbands and boyfriends from complaining while their wives shop for furniture — Mänland.

The so-called “play space” includes Xbox consoles, arcade machines, fooseball tables, flat screen TVs and free hot dogs, News Online Australia reports. How much more manly can you get?

News Online’s TV anchor doesn’t help the already sexist implications of Mänland by asking the IKEA employee she’s interviewing who benefits more from Mänland— the wives who “have to drag their whinging husbands around,” or the guys who “finally get some reprieve from being dragged around” the shop.
