If you trust in the political lessons of the television show the “West Wing,” you know hand-shaking events are always a major security risk for standing presidents.
Now, French President Nicolas Sarkozy teaches us the real-life lesson. In a video shown on French news channels, Sarkozy greets residents in Toulouse, France, grinning as he presses the flesh. One unidentified man, rather than shake hands, grabs the lapels of Sarkozy’s coat and aggressively yanks him into the crowd. Sarkozy manages to duck out of the man’s grip.
What’s amazing about the video is how quickly his security detail reacts. Within four seconds, the jacket-grabber is on the ground surrounded by four men, and a slightly shaken Sarkozy goes back to shaking hands and smiling at his citizens.
