Photo of the day: What in the world?

Update: For those of you who guessed eruption, you’re right! The image shows an eruption in the Red Sea that appears to have created an entirely new island off the west coast of Yemen.

Today’s photo of the day seems fairly innocuous — a cloud hovering over several land masses in the sea.

But this image wasn’t taken by just any photographer. Instead, it was captured by the Advanced Land Imager on NASA’s Earth Observing-1 satellite. What in the world is happening in this photo that NASA was so interested in? And where in the world is it?

Leave your guesses in the comments below or tweet them to  @postworldnews using the hashtag#whatintheworld.
