Pop royalty Prince was on “Lopez Tonight” — yes, “Lopez Tonight” — to kick off his 21-day run at the L.A. Forum, performing two brand new songs and a “Purple Rain” classic. The 52-year-old legend talked to George Lopez about his reasons for being a vegetarian, not owning a sweat suit and, on a more serious note, changes in the music industry. “I am here today because of the golden age of the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s in music,” he said. “This is when artists played their own instruments, wrote their own songs.”

Wearing a gold sequined suit (naturally), Prince and the New Power Generation performed “The Beautiful Ones” from “Purple Rain,” and new songs “Laydown”and “You’re the One for Me.” There were amazing guitar licks, theatrics and fine looking ladies. Basically, it was classic Prince.
