Fire whipped through Reno, Nev. early in the morning hours on Friday. Over 400 acres were enflamed, 20 houses were ruined and one man, racing to escape the fire died of a heart attack.
According to the Reno Gazette Journal (which has a deeply reported live blog started at 1 a.m. Friday morning) reports the fire quickly spread thanks to a forceful wind that pushed burning embers miles past the fire line. Firefighters raced to alert people to evacuate their homes and struggled to contain the fire. At present, more than 4,900 homes are currently threatened and 10,000 people have evacuated.
