Videos: Tornadoes tear through South

Violent storms swept across the South on Wednesday, killing scores as tornadoes left cities in shambles. While they took cover, many residents caught dramatic footage of the storms.

A massive tornado leveled parts of Tuscaloosa, home of the University of Alabama and one of the hardest-hit cities, according to the Associated Press.

Fox6 News in Birmingham caught live video as a tornado touched down in Tuscaloosa. The funnel becomes more evident after the 7:00 mark or so. Starting at 8:50, bright flashes are visible near the funnel’s base as several transformers blow.

Jefferson County, which includes Birmingham, reported at least 11 deaths, according to the AP.

Near Philadelphia, Miss.

A tornado touched down Neshoba County in central Mississippi, around the town of Philadelphia, according to the Neshoba Democrat. Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour has declared a state of emergency for 39 counties, including Neshoba.
