After Carol Bartz learned she had been fired as CEO of Yahoo yesterday, she sent around a company-wide e-mail that caused New York Magazine’s Daily Intel to note: “Niceties are not a big part of Yahoo’s corporate culture.” Wall Street Journal’s AllThingsD wrote of the e-mail: “It is, like her, a doozy, titled simply as ‘Goodbye’:”
Here is the e-mail:
I am very sad to tell you that I’ve just been fired over the phone by Yahoo’s Chairman of the Board. It has been my pleasure to work with all of you and I wish you only the best going forward.
Bartz, who sent the message from her iPad, didn’t mention that she was on a plane on the East East Coast and Yahoo chairman Roy Bostock was coming West, so they would have had no opportunity to meet in person Tuesday. But ever since Bartz announced her intentions in 2009 to “kick some butt” at Yahoo, graciousness from her has never been expected.
