Texas A&M University sent mobile alerts to students and faculty Monday about a shooting just blocks from the school’s campus. While the story continues to develop, this handful of alerts and tweets shows what the story looked like as it unfolded online and on campus.
According to a Web site for the university’s alert system “Code Maroon,” there is a lag between when an alert is sent and when it is received. This chart shows how fast “Code Maroon” alerts are delivered. E-mail tends to have the most lag time, while Twitter and classroom alerts are the fastest.
