Best weather song lyrics: help us find them
Through the years, weather has served as a frequent inspiration for songwriters. Allusions and references to our skies, rain and snow, and heat and cold have complemented countless tunes. Help us identify the most poetic, memorable and/or outstanding weather-related song lyrics.
I’ll aggregate submissions and then put up the top most frequently mentioned for a vote. If we get a ton, I may break submissions into categories (e.g., heat, snow, rain, etc)
To get us started, here are just a few that come to mind off the top of my head:
See the world in green and blue
See China right in front of you
See the canyons broken by cloud
See the tuna fleets clear out
See the Bedouin fires at night
See the oil fields at first light
And see the bird with a leaf in her mouth
After the flood all the colors came out
It was a beautiful day
Don’t let it get away
- U2, Beautiful Day
Now the First of December was covered with snow
And so was the Turnpike from Stockbridge to Boston
Lord, the Berkshires seemed dream-like on account of that frostin’
With ten miles behind me and ten thousand more to go
- James Taylor, Sweet Baby James
I’m dreaming of a white Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know.
Where the treetops glisten,
And children listen
To hear sleigh bells in the snow.
- Bing Crosby, White Christmas
Bows and flows of angel hair
And ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere
I’ve looked at clouds that way
But now they only block the sun
They rain and snow on everyone
So many things I would have done
But clouds got in my way
- Joni Mitchell, Both Sides Now
I can see clearly now, the rain is gone,
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind
It’s gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)
Sun-Shiny day.
- Johnny Nash, I Can See Clearly Now
Its gettin hot in here (so hot)
So take off all your clothes (eh)
I am gettin too hot, I wanna take my clothes off
- Nelly, Hot in Herre
