City Paper Names Best Local TV Forecast

After a 21-year hiatus, Washington City Paper has put together a "Best of DC" issue. But this isn't your father's best of edition but rather an irreverent and edgy assessment of some of DC's finest people, places and things.

In assessing the TV forecasts, City Paper smartly consulted the detailed ranking of forecasters conducted by us here at the Capital Weather Gang (CWG). Rather than picking the best forecaster like the CWG, City Paper selected the best station forecast. What forecast did they go with?

Clue: the judge is indisputably an anti-Dopplerite. If you know which station doesn't promote its Doppler you've got your answer. Continue reading for verification...

The answer is Fox 5 Storm Force.

A visit to Fox 5's Web site reveals the Storm Force isn't Dopplerless, but the station has chosen not to make the Doppler a focal point of its weather team's identity.

The City Paper chose to reward this demonstration of modesty. "[Fox 5] wisely understands that the word 'Doppler' impresses nobody," writes City Paper judge Mark Athitakis.

Do you agree with City Paper's choice?
