Still a few degrees too high for perfection. But boy it’s close with lowering humidity. Get the Digit on Twitter | Discuss on Facebook

As the saying goes, there’s always sunshine after the rain, and we’ll hold that true today after we clear out any lingering morning clouds. The lower humidity levels and near-average highs today and tomorrow are an enjoyable reprieve from this summer’s muggy heat fest. That heat remains mostly in check the next several days even though humidity and storm chances bubble back up by Tuesday. Can a cold front beat the humidity back down again as soon as Wednesday?

Today (Sunday): We’re back into the upper 80s to near 90 for highs, but with decreasing humidity we’re looking at a fine close to the weekend. Some leftover morning cloudiness is possible, but should give way to partly to mostly sunny skies. And with a light breeze from the west-northwest, it’ll be hard not to get out and enjoy the day. Confidence: High

Tonight: The pleasantries continue into the evening and overnight as well. We’re in for a cool, dry evening with mostly clear skies. Some of the coolest suburbs dip to near 60 for overnight lows. Downtown lows likely hold in the mid-to-upper 60s. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Monday): We’ve still got the drier air and mostly to partly sunny skies. Some moisture may stream in later in the day in the form of some higher clouds, with an outside (10% chance) of a small shower across Southern MD and the Eastern Shore. But for the most part it’s another nice day with highs near 90. Confidence: High

Tomorrow night: Clouds increase as southerly winds bring additional humidity back into the fold. There’s still that small chance for an isolated shower or two, but most should stay dry, with overnight lows in the upper 60s to low 70s. Confidence: Medium-High

Tuesday begins to feel a bit more like we’re used to around here. It starts out partly sunny, but with the approach of another cold front, clouds begin to build as highs climb into the low 90s. There’s a decent (40-50% chance) for some storms Tuesday afternoon and/or night. Overnight lows range through the upper 60s to low 70s. Confidence: Low-Medium

Assuming the front clears the area, which isn’t a sure bet this far out, then we’ve got a good one to look forward to on Wednesday, with increasing sun and dropping humidity. If the front hangs close, though, then we could still see lingering mugginess with a chance of showers. Highs should make the mid-to-upper 80s. Confidence: Medium
