A daily assessment of the potential for *accumulating* snow for the next week on a 0-10 scale. More info
Today (Monday): The first half of the day is cloudy and calm as temperatures slowly rise through the 30s. During the afternoon, snow and rain develop from southwest to northeast, which have a good chance of transitioning to mostly snow except south and east of the beltway where a rain/snow mix is more likely. Highs near 40 fall back into the 30s as precipitation gets going. Any snow accumulation is primarily on grassy areas. Confidence: Medium
Tonight: Snow or a rain/snow mix probably tapers to drizzle before ending between 7 p.m. and midnight. Total snow accumulations, mainly on grassy areas, are: a coating to 1” north and west of the beltway (except 1-2” at high elevations of Loudoun and Frederick county), no accumulation to 0.5” inside the beltway, and little or no accumulation south and east of the beltway.
After midnight, it’s mostly cloudy with patchy fog, and lows 30-35. Confidence: Medium

Christmas (Tuesday): Skies become partly to mostly sunny and it’s pretty nice out all things considered. Highs reach the mid-to-upper 40s with a light wind from the north at 5-10 mph. Confidence: Medium-High
Tomorrow night: Increasing clouds with a slight chance of rain by morning, except possibly freezing rain, sleet and/or snow north and west of the beltway. Lows range from 30-36 (suburbs-city). Confidence: Medium
Rain is likely Wednesday (Boxing Day), except there’s a slight chance of a frozen mix early in the far north and west suburbs. The rain may be heavy at times, with a chance of thunder. Highs range from the mid-40s in the colder suburbs to 50-55 south and east of the District. Rain ends Wednesday night, and it turns breezy, with lows 35-40. Confidence: Medium
Thursday and Friday are quiet days. Skies are partly to mostly sunny, with highs 40-45 and overnight lows from the low 20s in the cooler suburbs to near 30 downtown. Winds are a bit gusty Thursday before subsiding Thursday night and Friday. Confidence: Medium-High
The last of the week’s three storm systems may work through the region Saturday and perhaps linger into early Sunday. (skies may start to clear later that day). It’s too soon to provide a detailed sense of what to expect except to say there are above average odds of precipitation Saturday into the first half of Sunday, which could be rain and/or snow. Highs both days probably won’t be any warmer than 40-45, and could get stuck in the 30s if there’s precipitation. Overnight lows are likely around 30-35. Confidence: Low
