In a summer replete with extreme heat, high humidity and powerful storms, today serves as a welcome break from all three. Sure it’s still warm, but it is summer after all. And the low humidity and lack of storm risk are a nice change of pace. In-your-face heat and humidity return in a big way tomorrow with a shot at our 8th 100-degree day of the year, then we transition back to average summer fare by the weekend.
Today (Wednesday): Well what do we have here? Nothing short of a darn nice summer day. Mostly sunny skies, low humidity and light winds accompany highs in the upper 80s. Days like today are few and far between in the middle of summer, so get out and enjoy if you can. Confidence: High
Tonight: After a very pleasant evening, a light breeze from the south sends the humidity steadily upward overnight. Lows settle in the upper 60s to low 70s under partly cloudy skies. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Thursday): Just like that, we’re back to the hot stuff - the really hot stuff. Partly to mostly sunny skies and warm breezes from the southwest conspire for highs in the upper 90s to near 100. The D.C. record for the date is 103 - probably hard to reach but ya never know. Meanwhile, high humidity helps the afternoon heat index to near or a little past 105. Maybe an isolated afternoon or evening thunderstorm. Confidence: Medium-High
Tomorrow night: We’ll hold on to the chance of an isolated thunderstorm. Otherwise it’s partly cloudy and super steamy with lows in the mid-70s to near 80. Confidence: Medium-HighA LOOK AHEAD
A cold front in our vicinity Friday may add a bit in the way of clouds and bump shower and storm chances up to around 30%. Still, partly sunny skies should be enough to get highs to the low-to-mid 90s. How about humidity? Yeah, still pretty high. And still a 20-30% chance of a thunderstorm Friday night with lows mainly in the 70s. Confidence: Medium
The weekend doesn’t look too bad from here. Skies should be at least partly sunny each day with highs around 90 or in the low 90s. Humidity shouldn’t be terrible either, in the moderate range. Early signs don’t point to a particularly stormy weekend, but there’s enough of a threat to include a 30% chance each day, at least for now. Confidence: Medium
